SWIFTT

Development on myWilderness inspection and forest threat monitoring via satellites.

With forests vulnerable to sudden changes such as insect invasions, fires and windthrow, countless habitats are at risk of disappearing, and CO2 sequestration declines by billions of tonnes every year. Earlier warning and better understanding of threats can save thousands of hectares a year. This can provide Europe's forests with the tools to combat climate change and preserve their biodiversity. A consortium has therefore been set up to provide an innovative solution by creating an automated system based on satellite monitoring that will provide early warning and understanding of risks that are becoming more and more intense: insects are breeding more frequently, forest fires and storms are becoming more violent and frequent.

8 European companies and researchers, including Timbtrack, are working together to achieve this goal in a 3-year project and test it in different parts of the continent.
